Many factors need to be considered before selecting the right crane for the right lifting operation. The working radius (centre of the slewing area of the crane to the centre of the item being lifted) & weight of the item are just two elements of paramount importance to the selection of the correct crane; they are by no means the only deciding factors. Lifting Operations & Lifting Equipment Regulations (L.O.L.E.R.) 1998 states all lifting operations undergo a degree of planning and result in a safe system of work. An appointed person or "AP" must not only ensure the correct capacity cranes are used but also that the lifts are supervised a method statement, risk assessment & lift plan are produced, a banksman / slinger is employed & the necessary insurance cover is in place.

Crane Hire Or Contract Lift?

The CPA (contractors plant-hire association) is an industry standard that Ellis Crane Hire Ltd is proud to be a member of. Under the CPA model conditions for the hiring of plant (copy on request) the hirer is responsible for providing the personnel and information as described above when carrying out lifting operations.

Alternatively Ellis Crane Hire Ltd. will carry out a CPA Contract Lift; thereby providing the necessary responsibilities and elements required by L.O.L.E.R. & B.S.7121-1:2006.
